The Gangneung Central Market located at Geumgseong-ro, Gangneung-si represents the region's traditional market. Even before the time of Japanese Imperialism, it has been a permanently established market which is the main trading center for fish and crops in the Yeongdong region. The registered Central Market is a modern building with floors from Basement 1 to the second floor. Yet, citizens of Gangneung refers shopping areas close to the market as the Gangneung Central Market.

According to the Central Market Cooperative, even during the Japanese Imperialism where the Dano was difficult to open, this central market was still the permanently established market during the time.
